Concept
It is a good idea to know what you want to do before you do it. Taking a little extra time here will
save you a lot later and most likely give you better results. For this tutorial I imagined a military
type female who still managed to look female. I had the idea of a tank top and camouflage pants. That
was about it though. I just knew I wanted to stay somewhat realistic, but still show off her figure. I
decided to draw her first in order to work out the details.
I found that my original idea was rather boring. I added gloves, knee pads, and elbow pads to take away
from the plainness of the model. I also lengthened the tank top and raised the neckline of it to keep it
from looking like something most women probably wouldn’t wear in public, let alone in combat. I attempted to use
straps around the leg to hold the weapon holster, but she looked a little too much like Miss Croft, so
I raised it to her belt line. I’m still not sure on the colors we’ll be using, but that really isn’t of
much importance right now. In the end, it’s a good idea to draw your character before you start modeling
so you can get the details worked out. Its much easier to change things now than after you’ve started
modeling. Also be sure to draw your character in a pose rather than the spread-eagle pose we model our
characters in. It gives you a better feel for what type of attitude your character is going to have, as
well as how they are going to carry themselves.
